Online Order form

I.S.O.:  I.S.O. - AMO ISO 01 - £12
New formation with Ground Zero alumni Otomo Yoshihide and Sachiko Matsubara and interesting newcomer Ichiraku Yoshimitsu (drums, electronics). Slow, abstract, rich with extremes, ambient.
ICHIYANAGI, TOSHI/MAKI ISHII:  Music for a Living Process (vinyl) - EDRZ 1008 - £8.30
IF, BWANA: Clara Nostra - POGUS P21019-2 - £12
I'm someone not much enamoured of drones and this is, essentially, a 64 minute drone. But then it is a classic, bottomless, exquisite drone - the product of 106,476 clarinets "rumbling and growling" as composer Al Margolis has it, sped up slowed down and treated in uncountable ways - a pleasure to be in the room with.
IL BERLIONE:  Il Berlione - BA 9229 - £15.50
50% fast and furious, clean and punchy, complex and super competent rock-kind-of-jazz-kind-of; convincing - 50% more jazz-rock as known.
IL BERLIONE:  453 Minites Infernal Cooking - BELL 9483 - £15.50
New work from Japanese group who play in the classic 'progressive' 70's style, and far better, technically, than any group of the period. But it is a period style - for fans of 'progressive' rock. No current European or American group plays like this now, nor could they quite in the 70's, so it's a strange double timewarp music; uniquely so. Impressive is probably the word.
IL GRAN TEATRO AMARO:  Piazza Orphelins - RECDEC 69 - £12.50

IL GRAN TEATRO AMARO:  Hotel Brennessel - RECDEC 56 - £12.50

ILLUMINATED:  Rituals around the World - SUBCD0 27-29 - £12.55
INVENTIONEN 1:  Kand/Mandolini/Schaeffer - ERZ 2 - £8.30
ISLAND OF SANITY:  New Music NYC. - NML 8707CD - £12
Rare sampler from No Man's Land.
JABLKON:  Baba Aga - B+N 9202 - £12
New CD from the eccentric acousticians. Not easy to clasify. Whoever heard the last will know what to expect. Newcomers I'd still advise to listen to JABLKON and SVECENY first. Two new releases.

JABLKON:  Symphonic - F1 0003-2031 - £12
As the title implies, Jablkon had the Czech Symphony Orchestra to play with - and violin maestro Jaroslav Sveceny. 11 pieces. A curiosity with some fine parts. Someone did a monstrous amount of work for this. A document

JABLKON:  Machalaj - BABA N9504 - £12
More as known.

JARBOE:  Warm liquid..(CD single) - SR 64 - £12.55
JARDIN D'USURE:  Musique du Garrot.. - SR 65 - £12.55
JAUNIEUX, CATHERINE/IKUE MORI:  The Vibraslaps - RECDEC 52 - £11.50
After extensive European touring, eccentric pieces from CJ (inscrutable voices) and IM (Drums and drum machines).
JELLYFISH KISS, THE:  Luna Hotel - RECDEC 63 - £12.50
JILALA and GNAOVA:  Moroccan Trance Music - SUBCD0 13-36 - £12.55
JOHAN HUIZING QUARTET:  Live at Da Capo - DC7 - £12.75
JON and UTSUNOMIYA:  ( ) - MIMI 004 - £12
Utsunomiya some will recall was the genius behind the sound of After Dinner. Here, working with singer and accordionist JON, he has produced a CD that is more or less indescribable. It is a work of pure sound (and comes with a long and thoughtful essay about sound, place and performance. Do not expect 'weird' sounds and conventional complexity, nor electronics.. this is superficially baffling but essentially and existentially a genuine innovation. You can't listen to it for 'the music', it is a complete event, and there are listening recommendations which it pays to follow. Japanese release. limited quantity.
JONSSON, LACH'N:  Songs from the Cities of Decay - BAR 9602 - £12
Welcome reissue, with new intermezzo track, of the dark but fascinating LP featuring Lars on everything! Great drums and arrangements, accomplished use of odd metres and cross genre vocabularies (rock, medieval music, industrial noise) and strong composition. Nice to have it back.
JORGENS, P.O:  The Technology of Touch - NWM 008 - £12
A record it's hard to describe and do justice to. Consisting essentially of all manner of percussion carefully arranged and orchestrated, displaying a fine ear for detail and a sure sense of rhythm and dramaturgy. Each piece explores a clear set of sonorities and developmental possibilities with considerable imagination and variety. It's not contemporary, ethnic, minimal, repetitive, indulgent, jazzy ... but I can't say what it is.
JULVERNE:  Le Retour - IGL 089 - £12
Cult Belgian chamber rock/jazz/tango/ progressive group. Some very interesting arrangements. Part is a reissue of their most famous LP.
JUSTINE:  Suite - AM 016CD - £12
The core of 'Wondeurbrass' and 'Les Poules', here Joane Hetu, Diane Labrosse, Danielle Roger are joined by Marie Trudeau and guests Tenko and Zeena Parkins on 2 tracks. Continuing their work, their way. Excellent.

JUSTINE:  Langages Fantas.. - AM 033CD - £12
Right on course with another excellent CD. Justine assemble their pieces from unlikely material but with a fine ear for exactly the perfect sounds and structural movements. You can feel the people behind the playing and the raw edges here are vital links between listener and performer; unlike many 'experimental' groups, who seem to be afraid to take emotional responsibility for their work, Justine finds its centre and its strength precisely here.

KAHN, JASON:  Drums and Metals - cut 003 - £12.50
Minimal kit drum percussion pieces, very inventive, simple and original, where rhythm is a mirror through which shifting sonorities and melodic modulations are explored. A strong concept excellently realised. Sound counts (engineered by Bob Drake).
KAISER, HENRY:  Lemon Fish Tweezer - RUNE 45 - £11.50
An earlier compilation for Rune.

KAISER, HENRY:  The five Heavenly Truths - FOT HK1 - £12
Heavenly = 77 minutes. Includes solo, unreleased CRAZY BACKWARDS ALPHABET material. His first solo project in 3 years.

KAISER/KIMURA/O'ROURKE/OSWALD:  Acoustics - VICTO CD 025 - £12
KAISER/O'ROURKE/KIMURA:  Tomorrow Knows - VICTO CD 014 - £12
KALAHARI SURFERS:  In The Heart of the Beast (vinyl) - RR C24 - £8.30
Newscasts. Troublemaker Warric Sony, master of documentary incorporation and edit, who steals the sounds, embarassing speeches and paranoias from paradise and winds them into music that is insistent, out of hand, danceable, tricky and hallucinatory by turns.
See also ReR, Lesego Rampolokeng
KAMIYAMA, HOPPY:  Juice and Tremolo - Son 02 - £11
'Works of Chamber Music'. The remarkable Hoppy Kamiyama extends his composing side with a fine selection of pieces for String Quartet, String Quartet with Harp, Drums and Metal, Bass, Keyboards, Guitar and Drums, Solo Piano, for 4 TV commercials with a lot of instrumentation and some Space Insects. This is an excellent collection, full of ideas and good playing that stretches from almost traditional string writing to full ahead power noise, with interesting mixtures along the way.
KAMPEC DOLORES
Solid, clear and inventive songs. One of the most distinctive and original voices in Hungarian experimental/rock today. Some very radical guitar, arrangements on the edge and fine deployment of violin, effects, national music references and straight/tricky times.(Levitation is a reissue on CD of our 'POINTS EAST' LP).
See also ReR, Kontroll Csoport.

KAMPEC DOLORES:  Eye of the Needle - CDB 004 - £12

KAMPEC DOLORES:  Levitation - BAMU CD 001 - £11.50

KARET, DJAN:  The Devouring - RUNE 99 - £11.50
KARL EIN KARL:  Karl ein Karl - UTR 4039 CD - £12
Interesting and well recorded CD of played organised and improvised pieces, very listenable, varied and engaging. Bass, Voice, electronics, electric and acoustic guitar, cello mainly. Intelligent and well designed booklet and careful listening proposals (special order replay programmes for 'concert, dinner music, instructive statements, exclusive songs'.
KATO HIDEKI:  Turbulent Zone - ME 89801 - £12
A CD of Electric Bass solos? Yes. A multiplicity of techniques imaginatively deployed to produce a sequence of fragile sound events. Delicate noise.
KATZER, G/ Z. KRAUZE, J.KRCEK:  Aide Memoire/Folk Music (vinyl) - RR 22 - £7
'Aide Memoire'('Seven Nightmares From The Thousand Year Night') is a classic work. Commissioned by GDR Radio on the 30th Anniversary of Hitler's rise to power (to counter the nostalgia coming from West German TV and Radio at the time) it uses the treated voices of the old nazi leaders and other contemporary documentary materials in the construction of a musical and dramatic structure of hair-raising intensity. This is a major work, and unequivocally a political one. It comes with full English text and notes. 'Folk Music' is Breughelian chaos of decentred folk musics, about 100 melodies simultaneously played by autonomously organised sub- groups within the Polish Radio and TV Symphony Orchestra at the Warsaw Autumn 1972. 'Sonaty' is a concrete work based on a phonetic medieval text of nightingale songs. Two voices provide the source material, radically processed. Exquisite, clear and haunting. 16pp Book.
KEARY, SHAUN:  Holding back - BS 001 - £11
Sample pieces, well constructed and neither industrial, dance or electroacoustic ûalthough employing techniques from each. Interesting and unusual application of sampling technology.
KEIJI HEINO:  Fushitsusha - VICTO CD 060 - £12
With Yasushi Ozawa (bass) and Ikuro Takahashi (drums).
KENNEDY, JOHN and MARK CHESTERMAN:  Drumsmachine - L002 - £11
Pieces for drums and drum machines; open, vulnerable unprocessed sound, with a natural acoustic delicacy. A fascinating, sometimes dreamy set of drum-scapes, far from drum solos on the one hand and contemporary percussion music on the other. This is a music that ploughs it's own confident furrow. Private CD-R release imported form New Zealand and in very limited supply.
KENSO:  Sora Ni Hikaru - BA 9465 - £15.50
1981,2 - 'one of the most important technical sympho bands'
KERMAN, DAVE - 5UU's:  Regarding Pugatories - RUNE 135 - £11.50
Dave's first solo record, with some assistance from singer Deborah Perry, bassist Keith Macsoud, and keyboardists Sanjay Kumar and Charles Turner. Not really 5uu's - the sound is very different, as is the approach to much of the material - and there are more minimal pieces. Though Dave's signature melodies and big orchestrations are here too. He plays a lot himself, which is welcome, and there is more open improvised and studio manipulated material (my favourite part of the record, I think, because the most different).
KING/MOSS/YOSHIHIDE:  All At Once At Anytime - VICTO CD 029 - £12
Guitar, Turntables, Drums and Voice. In the hands of old hands. Live improvisations, well recorded and kept to the point.
KINOTHEK PERCUSSION:  Industry - NML D873CD - £12
Dedicated to RUSSOLO. Organised samples of factory and mechanical sounds.
KITCHEN SINK LIVE:  Various Artists - £12.50
More news from Australia. A collection of improvised pieces from known and unknown players, between 1993-8, mostly recorded in Sydney but a few outside. Known include Machine for Making Sense, Jon Rose, Tony Buck, Joe Williamson, Rik Rue, Jim Denley, and non Australian Shelley Hirsch. An excellent collection and a useful introduction to a living community of music and several unfamiliar players.
KIXX:  Weisser Voodoo - UTR 4058 CD - £12
Dietmar Diesner, Lars Rudolph, David Gattiker and the ubiquitous Jim Meneses. An unusual collection of pieces featuring rhythm, noise, treated saxophones and voices, trumpet, guitar and unrecognisable cello + electronics. Homogeneous, sometimes inspired. Horrible cover art.
KJELL SAMKOPF:  Har Du Sunget Den For Grieg? - dBUT 010 - £12
Did you sing this for a Grieg? subtitled 'a landscape portrait of the artist 86 years on'. A highly interesting environ/plunder project contrasting minute 'empty' listening (to snow, mountain walks, ancient voices) with simultanious 'tidal' auditions of Grieg's lyric, orchestra, vocal and piano musics. One of a kind.
KLANGBRUCKE BERN:  Selected Soundscape No 1 - CD 305 - £12
Unusual document of a concert spaced out across a city. Many great parts and altogether a pretty interesting achievement. Beautifully produced and annotated.
KLAXON GUELE:  Bavards (dbl) - AM052 CD - £24
KLUCEVSEK, GUY:  Scenes From a Mirage (vinyl) - RERE106 - £8.30

KLUCEVSEK, GUY:  Polka Dots and Laser Beams - EVVA 33008 - £12.75

KLUCEVSEK, GUY:  Aint Nothing but a Polka Band - EVVA 33009 - £12.75

KLUCEVSEK, GUY:  Scenes From a Mirage - RERE106CDM - £12
The excellent LP re-released on CD. Inventive collection of accordion pieces, mostly in rythmn and melody mood (for dance) and some for dense multiple accordion complexity. Extremely listenable

KLUCEVSEK, GUY: Transylvanian Software - ST 207 - £12
Welcome reissue of Accordion pieces by Guy himself, John Zorn William Duckworth and Fred Frith.

KOMBINAT M:  Hybrid Beat - RUNE 48 - £11.50
KONTROLL CSOPORT:  1983 (Dbl) - BVD 002-3 - £20
The legendary Hungarian song group. Strange pop, related to Kampec Dolores (share composer/guitarist Csaba Hajnoczy) with bizarre edge and great singing. Document of the unavailable (or at least 'underground') music of the early '80's. Well recorded.
KOPCE/OSKLID:  Jest Po'd... - PANTON 81115 - £12
Some will remember the excellent 7-inch, then the only recording of this interesting group. Now a well made CD. Fast, complex songs with imaginative arrangements and many soul/pop references, but all in a unique (but typically czech) style. Part of a truly original post- 'progressive' Czech school that deserves attention.
KOVACS, BORIS:  Mirror of the Voice - 0008 - £12.50
A sampler of Boris' work, beautifully packaged with embossed sleeve and separate flat-bound 50pp booklet with an extraordinary apologia sua vita and intellectual and spiritual biography elucidated through the works. Most of the tracks are taken from existing records but their sequence and the addition of recent material make this a journey that has it's own existential meaning. A tribute to a great, and quiet spirit.

KOVAC, BORIS:  The Mask - TARCD004 - £11.50
Ensemble Music for Theatre. Covers a lot of ground. Scarce Jugoslavian pressing.

KOVAC, BORIS:  Play on String - MOMUS 002 - £12.50
Music for String Quartet.

KOVAC, BORIS:  Profane Liturgy - DNN 001C - £12
This is the third of a set of highly distinctive and articulate releases which bring Folk sensibilities and instruments together with contemporary aesthetics and a particular spirituality.

KOVAC, BORIS:  Anamnesis-Ecumenical Mysteries - VICTO CD 039 - £12
Chamber music with voice. A single work, dedicated to Berdjiaev and Gurdjieff.

KOVACS. BORIS:  East OFF Europe - VICTO CD 062 - £12
See also ReR, vinyl.
KRAABEL, CAROLINE: The Mass Producers - dbc 228 - £12
"Performances for large saxophone ensemble". A large and imaginative ensemble of 20 female saxophonists co-ordinated by Caroline that explores everything you can do with massed saxophones, hocketing, amorphous chords, drones, melody, tight organisation, pure sound, singing and figure-ground coinstructions.

KRAABEL,CAROLINE: Now We are One Two - dbc 207 - £12
Caroline is a Saxophonist and Performance Artist and this is a remarkable solo album. Palpably personal and present - using extended techniques, no technique, atmospheric noise, strangled cries, fragments of dialogue, suspensethis removes itself from the normal and conventionally musical to arrive at a kind of invocation of performance; I mean, of what is it to be alone in front of an audience and invent. And the cover, extraordinary, a work of art, which only to see is to believe..

KRALDJURSASTALTEN:  Kraldjursastalten - MEGA 020 - £12
The legendary swedish reptile asylums, comprising telepathic twins Stefan and Thomas Agaton (Guitar, Bass) with the prodigious Michael Maksymenko (Drums). Nobody has yet got closer to the lurching swing complexity of the old magic band, I mean thinking like not imitating.
KRAUSE, DAGMAR and GOYETTE, MARIE:  A scientific dream and a French kiss - RES 139 CD - £12
A collection of songs. Dagmar sings, Marie provides the big-bands, orchestras, other sound samples and incidental commentary with a particularly audacious simplicity that conceals a radical conception.
KRZISNIK, BORUT:  Stories from Magatrea - BK1 - £12
An extraordinary and almost extinct recording. Treated Orchestra. Enormous sound, rock spirit.
KURYOKHIN, SERGEI:  Divine Madness (4 cds) - CD LR 813-816 - £49.24
Released as a memorial tribute. The 5 hours of music covers all periods of his career and includes previously unreleased work, long deleted LPs , supplemented by a 20 page booklet.

KURYOKHIN, SERGEY: The Ways of Freedom - GY 14 - £12
The legendary release reissued.
L'ENSEMBLE PIERRE CARTIER:  Les Fleurs du Tapis - AM 043CD - £12
L'ENSEMBLE RAYE:  Hiver/Pinson - AYAA CDT 028 - £12.50
A collection of exquisite constructions pellucidly recorded, preserving with crystal clarity the mostly acoustic (often exotic) instruments played. Much attention to unexpected detail, eccentric arrangements, melody, expression. A quiet record, mildly reminiscent of Lars Hollmer.

L'ENSEMBLE RAYE:  En Frac - LUS 003 - £12.75
A new CD by Ray - always a welcome event. A collection of beautifully arranged and played pieces, unfashionably tuneful and Hollmer/hot club - for guitar, bass, all manner of brass and accordion - joined here by the remarkable Shirley Anne Hoffman. Intelligent and generous music and a pleasure to listen to.

L'ENSEMBLE RAYE:  Quelques Pieces Detachees - AYAAVDT 0993 - £12.50
Return of the great melody band with a new collection of fine pieces.

L'ORCHESTRE DES PAS PERDUS:  T'auras pas ta - AM 040CD - £12
L'ORCHESTRE PAS PERDUS:  Maison douce maison - AM 060 - £12
Bigband pieces, very charming, bordering on exotica.
L.VOAG:  The Way Out - ALLV CD - £11.50
Reissue of the genuinely strange and idiosyncratic masterpiece reclusive and light-sensitive LV. In the guise of VERY OPEN and stretched pop songs, experiments stream out at A LOT per minute. A melange of snappy tunes, highly unobvious arrangements, left handed humour, sound research, super radical mixing and one off words and singing style. With extra material including the legendary and wholly perfect Beauty Spreads 7-inch. In my view, this is a benchmark best of the late 70's Magnum Opus.
LA 1919:  Giorni Felici - MASO 90094 - £12
Guests on single tracks: Franco Fabbri, Henry Kaiser, John Oswald, Fausto Rossi.

La 1919:  Jouer. Spielen. To Play - MASOCD90063 - £12
Italian trio specialising in tuneful and rythmic improvisations, here with two guests Charles Hayward on studio recordings and Chris Cutler on live recordings.

LA LEGENDE DE LA PLUIE:  Hetu, Parkins, Tenko etc - AM 026CD - £12
Written, Improvised, Studio work. A unique production of fascinating quality - prepared for and presented at the Montreal Musiques Actuelles Festival 1990. A travelogue, displaced narrative, collision..? Sublime moments and plenty of musical lateral thinking. Nice package.
LA PEAUDE DU MONDE:  ditto - FAI040CD - £12
LABORATORIO DI MUSICA and IMAGINE:  Colpi Secci - ERH 008 - £12
Another collection of compositions for films by the italian 14 piece mini-orchestra
LABROSSE, DIANNE:  Petit Traite de Sagesse Practique - AM 074CD - £12
With Pierre Taguay, Jean Derome, Joanne Hetu, Martin Tetreault, Michel F.Cote, Alexandre St.Onge, Rainer Wiens, Louise Labrosse and Robert Langlois (not all at the same time) this is a CD that is sometimes great and always intriguing.

LABROSSE, DIANE:  Face cachee des - AM 036CD - £12
'The hiden side of things'. Diane, of JUSTINE, at work with concrete sounds (diverse, everyday in the main, and annotated in the booklet), radical treatments and voice. From which: stories and music and great mirages, finely wrought and far from raw noise. Beautifully presented.

LABROSSE, DIANE /COTE M:  Duo - AM 031CD - £12
Is Diane Labrosse and Michel Cote, main instruments keyboard and drums/percs added by electronics, tape, stuff. Fragments, Constructions, Episodes.
LABROSSE/MORI/TETREAULT:  Ile Bizzare - AM 055 CD - £12
Takes no prisoners. Radical electronics, employing no recognisable sound, but full of silence and definition. An impressive piece of electronic music, except that you know it was actually played in real time. Extreme and beautifully controlled dynamics.
LACRYMOSA:  Joy of the Wrecked Ship - SSE 4033 - £15.50

LACRYMOSA:  Bugbear - SSE 8021 - £15.50
Previously released LP and EP and 5 extra tracks. Spacious and organic with additive rhythms, tunes and half deconstructed arrangments. Chamber sonorities. Strange.

LANE, FRED:  From the One that Cut You - SDE 8911CD - £11
The inimitable and extraordinary Rev. Lane and his huge 20 piece orchestra manned and womanned by an extraordinary galaxy of famous pseudonyms rips his way through 2 classic LP's. Frank Sinatra on a cocktail of psychotropics and psychedelics. Funny and frightening and completely unique. Who could produce or even conceive such a project today? Deleted - so these are the last copies.
LAS HALMAS:  Plus One - IH 9601 - £11.50
LEDESMA, JOSE LUIS FERNANDEZ/MARGARITA BOTELLO: Sol Central - Order by Name - £12.50
Impressive release, densely written, imaginative and beautifully realised, with much advanced use of voices, layering of parts and rhythmic juxtaposition. If it helps, but don't take it too literally, there are occasional family resemblances to Magma and After Dinner, but in general this is a musical language owing few obvious debts. Electronic and acoustic instruments perfectly mixed. Guests Alquimia and German Bringas feature.
LEINGRUBER/CRISPELL/LEANDRE/HAUER: Quartet Noir - VICTO CD 067 - £12
LEMONS, CHRIS:  Fantasy and Icon - CL2 - £12
A completely extraordinary production. This is a 38 minute piece for Electric Guitar, Bass, Kit and Udo Drums, Synthesiser, some ethnic instruments and Symphony Orchestra. And it's not Deep Purple but a fascinating and skilfully through composed piece after Lutoslawski - though far more liberal with instrumentation and genre references - where the electric instruments are fully and properly integrated. More amazing is that CL managed to arrange and finance an orchestra (the Lithuanian State Orchestra) to perform and record it. It was then substantially reworked and re-mastered it back in the USA. A remarkable achievement and I'm sure an early glimpse into a career that could produce great things.
LEMONS, CHRIS:  Control/Refugee - CL1 - £12
'Nirvana meets Lutoslavski' with String Orchestra of of Lyric Opera, Chicago and Rock instruments. Heavily composed and well integrated. OPTION compares to Rhys Chatham, Zappa, Chronos etc.
LEPAGE, ROBERT:  Les Clarinettes - AM 046CD - £12

LEPAGE, ROBERT:  Les Choses derri... - AM 035CD - £12

LEPAGE, ROBERT:  La Plante Humaine - AM 042CD - £12

LEPAGE, ROBERT: Illustre de la clarinette £12.50
Book of clarinet cartoons by Lepage with accompanying CD. The cartoons are well drawn and whimsical, the CD an amazing tour around the world of styles and clarinets, beautifully arranged and recorded. A monument to the clarinet and the geographical neutrality of the recording studio.

LES BATTERIES:  Bell System - RIFT CD19 - £12
More from the drum and other bits and pieces duo of Gigou Chenevier and Rick Brown.
LES MYSTERES DES VOIX VULGAIRES #2 - VV2 - £12
A fine collection of pieces from many sources - extremely eclectic. From Lesego Rampolokeng and Linton Kwesi Johnson through Etron Fou, Fred Frith and Caveman Shoestore to Eugene Chadbourne and Jello Biafra - not to mention Che Guevara, Lady June, Tony Coe, Peeni Waali, Subcomandante Marcos and Crass. Amongst others. An Anarchist Review item, lovingly produced with full book of texts and information in English and Italian. Rare and fine.
LES REINES PROCHAINES:  Dumme Seich - RECDEC 62 - £12.50

Songs, supersharp recording, some interesting arrangements that pull away from convention.
LEWIS, SUSANNE:  Susanne Lewis - SEDCD 027 - £12
New CD of songs from the incomparable Susanne Lewis. Whatever that gift is, to write simple rock songs and make them work, Susanne has it. She plays everything (except drums - and a rare guitar solo appearance from Bill Gilonis of The Work).

LEWIS, SUSANNE:  Kissyfur - FM 024 - £11.50
See HAIL/SNAIL Here by Susanne only, joined by various friends. Nice cover.

LILITH:  Redwing - SR 96 - £12.55

LILITH:  Stone - SR 55 - £12.55

LINGHAM:  Musiche per un Film Immaginario - BY TITLE - £11
First CD by this intriguing Italian group. Influences from early Art Bears, Magma, Fred Frith, well worth checking out.
LINZ, RAINER/BRIGID BURKE:  Intersect - CD NMA 7906 - £12.50
LONDON ELECTRIC GUITAR ORCHESTRA: 7 Wholls - 2:13CD007 - £12
Seven pieces made with acknowledgement to Fred Frith's graphic score "Dry Stone II" by seven very different guitarists. Disciplined and imaginative.
LOOK DE BOEK:  Bec et Ongles - AYAA TIC 089 - £12.50
Another one-of-a-kind. Simple but essential. Short pieces - played but made of minimal elements carefully deployed. Unsophisticated but full of ideas. Fresh, charming and with occasional echoes of Racaille and Musci/Venosta. A modest but excellent and stimulating piece of work.
LOUISE AVENUE:  Let's take one more.. - C7 007 - £12.55
As only Belgian groups seem to manage: another rythmic but dense small-ensemble not-jazz, not- rock, not-classical chamber music group with controlled compositions in the vein: Juleverne, Cro-Magnon etc..
LUNDING, RASMUS:  A travellers guide - PINGO CD 006 - £12
Interesting and well produced experiment. Memoir of a journey with richly compiled field recordings, studio performance, composition and arrangement; sometimes rather too much easy-listening to my taste, but a notable experiment.
LUSSIER, RENE:  Quatorze Improvisations a la Guitare Electrique - AM075CD - £12
Solo Improvisations. Recorded simultaneously by 8 different microphones in different locations. An interesting method: although there is no editing, overdubbing or equalisation, there is radical mixing of the different sound sources (like filming one event from 8 positions: so that the point of view -of audition - is always changing. Then Rene employs very extended techniques. He is a virtuoso after all, with an aesthetic uniquely his own. Prodigious. Good taken in sections.

LUSSIER, RENE:  Tresor de la Langue - AM 015CD - £12
A work of extraordinary accomplishment and vision. Years in the making (all feature transcripts, instrumentations and orchestrations of the human voice), sometimes breathtaking in its effect and technique. Won the French language radio Prize, not surprisingly.

LUSSIER, RENE:  Trois Histoires - AM 041CD - £12
Three classic pieces out of the 'Tresor' mould - where speech and music and treated sound and performances tell a complex but gripping story. This is radio art, but beyond radio art, mapping new ground cleared by the extraordinary 'Tresor' - one of the masterworks of recording. And sings the songs of the unsung, of craftsmen, ingenues and immigrants. Great work.

LUSSIER, RENE:  Le Corps De L'Ouvrage - AM 029CD - £12
New CD of composed pieces, small big band sound and beautifully recorded. Daxophone featured as well as Rene's (far from) usual radical and great guitar playing. Something new in the field: Rene as the Rock Gil Evans?

LUSSIER, RENE:  Chronique d'un Genocide Annonce - AM 058 CD - £12
Film music for a documentary about Rwanda. Dark, atmospheric music, scored for guitars, clarinet family, flute family, trombone, viola, violin, cello, percussion.

LUSSIER, RENE and MARTIN TETREAULT:  Qu'ouis-je? - AM 081 CD - £12
For Daxophone, Synthesiser, Pick-up and Rhythm Box. Radical, abstract pieces on the edge between playing and electronic aesthetics. Remarkable. Instrument design plus fearless sonic thinking.
LUSSIER, RENE and NOW ORCHESTRA:  Le Tour Du Bloc - VICTO CD036 - £12
Rene gets his hands on a 15 piece band. Fine compositions and arrangements - and a killer opening. An excellent CD.
LUSSIER, RENE /MARTIN TETREAULT:  Dur Noyau Dur - AM 057 CD - £12
Radical sound improvisations.
LUSSIER, RENE, PIERRE TANGUAY:  Le Vie Qui Bat - AM 047CD - £12
Improvisations for acoustic guitar and drums - but with the care and perfection now expected from Rene. Close, intimate sound, and constantly to-the-point playing from both parties, make this a gripping and exquisite recording. Minimum means, maximum expression.
LUSSIER, RENE/ROBERT LEPAGE:  Chants et Dnaces du Monde Inanime - AM 001 CD - £12
Reissue of the Vinyl LP.
LUSSIER, RENE/JEAN DEROME:  Le Royaume du Silencieux - AM 018CD - £12
Beautifully recorded, surprising, inventive. running from written and complex to simple and mysterious, with much tapework and virtuosic playing. Half understood stories of sound. Prodigious.
